Getting Started
Unpacking
The following steps are recommended for unpacking the new EVO Cam AURA the first time:
- Remove all items from box & place on a clean dry surface.
- Check contents align with parts listed below.
- Also remove any ancillary parts (if supplied) such as ring-lights, lenses etc.

- Power Supply + Local Mains Plug.
- HDMI Cable.
- Lens Cloth.
- Hex Key 2mm.

Mounting the Camera
To mount the camera:
- Locate the camera ❶ on to the stand’s dovetail interface ❷.
- Tighten securing grub screw ❸ with HEX key provided.

Note: The images above show the Microscope fitted to a Ergo Stand, but the same fitting instructions also apply to Vision Engineering’s other Stands.
Ring-Light Fitting
To fit the Ring-Light:
- Push the front of the Right-Light ❶ up into the front of the AURA and
then push the rear up into the AURA to fully engage. - This can be done with or without a lens fitted.
- The Ring-Light will be automatically detected.

Objective fitting
To fit a objective:
- With the white line on the objective lens ❶ aligned with the center of the
AURA’s camera (see below), raise the lens and turn to the right until it locks into place. - The Objective will be automatically detected.

Note: A ring-light condenser is required with the Ring-Light when 1.5x & 2.0x lenses are fitted. Follow here for more information.
Connecting the Microscope
To connect the microscope:
- Plug in HDMI lead to the rear of the EVO Cam AURA Digital Microscope to either HDMI port.
- Connect the other end of the cable to an appropriate monitor either Full HD (1920x1080) or
4k (3840x2160) depending on which model of EVO Cam AURA you have. - Plug in Power Supply & insert DC jack plug into the socket at the rear of the EVO Cam AURA
- Switch on power supply using only the power supply provided.
Switching On
Once the DC Jack is inserted & the power switched on the unit will go into standby mode indicated by a pulsing red LED surround.
To turn on the unit:
- Press the power button to start the unit.
- The LED will pulse green and go solid green when EVO Cam AURA Digital Microscope is ready to use.

To enter Standby Mode:
- Press & hold the power button for 2 seconds.
- The LED will go solid red once in standby mode.

Getting Familiar
Learn how to get up and running with EVOCAM AURA.
General Navigation
There are currently 2 main ways to control the EVOCAM AURA: via mouse or keypad (mechanical or touch panel variants available).
Mouse Mode
Connection
This mode refers to the use of a mouse to interact with the GUI. The mouse may be wired and connected via one of the USB ports; wireless and connected via a receiver placed in one of the USB ports or wireless connected via Bluetooth.
To accompany this, a keyboard should be used and connected similarly, either wired directly, using a receiver or Bluetooth.
General Navigation
The mouse utilises both left-click, right-click and the scroll wheel. A helpful light grey background appears on items that can be interacted with when the mouse hovers over it.
Left-Clicking allows the following:
- Expand/minimise any GUI feature by interacting with the connected arrow tab.
❶ Select an submenu element or feature within a section.
❷ Toggle the sliders via the (-) and (+) buttons or moving the pin on the slider.
❸ Select dropdown/expand boxes.
❹ Double click to select items in file browser.
Right-Click allows the following:
❺ Open the 'context menu' which displays useful system shortcuts that can be selected.
Scroll allows the following:
❻ Move longer menus up and down the pane to display the rest of the list.
Keypad Mode
Connection
This mode refers to the use of either: the wired Vision Engineering Keypad, connected to one of the USB ports; the inbuilt mechanical keypad or the inbuilt touchscreen keypad on the front of the AURA to interact with the GUI.
To accompany this, a keyboard should be used which can be wired and connected via one of the USB ports; wireless and connected via a receiver placed in one of the USB ports or wireless connected via Bluetooth.
General Navigation
The following shows the mechanical keypad layout. The keypad works on both short and long press.

The touchscreen panel is an advanced version of the mechanical keypad, adapting to the context of the desired function. It contains the same buttons as the mechanical keypad with additional shortcuts built into different pages. Follow here for full information on how to operate the touchscreen keypad.
Configure System
Layout
To change the layout of the GUI, simply follow the following steps:
- Open the menu.
- Navigate to 'System' submenu.
- Under 'User Interface' there are all options regarding the GUI layout.
Date / Time
To change the system date and time, simply follow the following steps:
- Open the menu.
- Navigate to 'System' submenu.
- Under 'System Configuration' there are all options regarding the date and time.
Units
To change the layout of the GUI, simply follow the following steps:
- Open the menu.
- Navigate to 'Dimensioning' submenu.
- Under 'Dimensioning' there is the option to change the measurement units.
Monitor GUI
GUI Layout
The EVO Cam Aura features a simple GUI where features are docked to the outer edges of the screen. Some features are only interactable in mouse mode, and in keypad mode they act as a status or value display.
Status Bar
The status bar, located at the top of the graphical user interface (GUI), provides real-time information regarding the current state and operational values of the system. Its primary purpose is to present key system parameters, status indicators, and relevant data in a concise and continuously visible manner, without interrupting workflow.
❶ Exposure mode
This item on the status bar shows the exposure mode currently selected. There are no associated values displayed under the item. There are 5 exposure modes to select from:
| 1- Auto Exposure 'Full Field' | The system will auto calibrate the camera exposure to the entire display. | |
| 2- Auto Exposure 'Spot Field' | The system will auto calibrate the camera exposure to a user determined cropped area of the display. | |
| 3- Manual Exposure | Allows the manual setting of aperture, gain and exposure time. | |
| 4- Aperture Priority | Select an F-stop value and brightness and the system will automatically adjust. | |

❷ Aperture
This item indicates the state of the camera aperture (F-Stop). Its visibility will be dependent on the exposure mode currently selected.
The range of values of aperture that can be displayed: F14 - F1.6
❸ Gain Level
This item indicates the gain level of the system. Its visibility will be dependent on the exposure mode currently selected.
The values of brightness level that can be displayed: 1-17
❹ Exposure Time
This item indicates the exposure time (shutter speed) of the camera. Its visibility will be dependent on the exposure mode currently selected.
The values of brightness level that can be displayed: 1/10000 - 1/1
❺ Brightness Level
This item indicates the brightness level of the camera. Its visibility will be dependent on the exposure mode currently selected.
The values of brightness level that can be displayed: 0-14
❻ Focus Mode
This item on the status bar shows the focus mode currently selected. There is an associated value displayed under the item showing focus level. There are 3 exposure modes to select from:

❼ Lens Detection
This displays which lens detection mode is currently selected. There is an associated value displayed under the item showing lens magnification. There are two lens detection modes to select from:

❽ Magnification
This displays which magnification mode the system is in. There is an associated value displayed under the item showing magnification level. There are two magnification modes that the system can be in:
| 1- Optical Magnification | he system is magnifying with no digital assistance. View data sheet for each lens for values. | |
| 2- Digital Magnification | The system is magnifying with digital assistance. View data sheet for each lens for values. |
Menu
The menu, located in the top left of the GUI, is where changes can be made to all camera and system settings. It can be expanded when making changes and then minimised to make it less obtrusive when the system is in normal operation. Anything that is dark grey can be selected and anything light grey is inactive, or disabled. The current selection or hovering with a mouse creates a light grey background to indicate position. The menu has 11 submenus that categorise all settings in intuitive subsections.
Camera
This submenu allows adjustments to be made to the inbuilt camera settings and other system image corrections. This submenu contains 3 sections:
- Focus - set focus modes and toggle focus levels.
- Exposure - set exposure mode and toggle brightness levels.
- Image Settings - enable/disable image filters and other visual adjustments.

Lighting
This submenu allows adjustments to be made to any lighting device connected to the system. This submenu contains 2 sections:
- Surface Lighting - set ring light quadrant control and brightness levels.
- Sub-Stage Lighting - set substage brightness levels.

Magnification
This submenu allows adjustments to be made to settings related to magnification, lenses, and zoom. This submenu contains 7 sections:
- Monitor Size Mode - set between automatic and manual detection.
- Monitor Size - set monitor dimensions.
- Lens Selection - set between automatic detection or manual input.
- Digital Zoom - set digital zoom level.
- Optimal Field - enable or disable feature.
- Zoom to - set 'zoom to' level.
- Zoom Limit - set min and max zoom limits.

Media
This submenu allows adjustments to be made to settings regarding image saving, formatting and media gallery. This submenu contains 4 sections:
- Media Button - set the definition of the media button.
- Image Capture - adjust image storage settings.
- Video Recording - adjust video storage settings.
- Media Gallery - access media gallery in file explorer.

This submenu allows the defining of hotkey actions and preset settings. This submenu contains 2 sections:
- Hotkeys - define hotkey 1, 2 and 3 actions.
- Presets - select, save, import, export and clear up to 10 preset slots.

Inspection
This submenu allows adjustments to be made to various inspection modes. This submenu contains 5 sections:
- Annotations - toggle annotations toolbar.
- Overlays - enable and disable saved overlays.
- Comparison - enable and disable saved comparison images.
- Crosshair - set size and colour of crosshairs.
- Focus Stack - adjust focus stack function.

This submenu allows adjustments to be made to various dimensioning features. This submenu contains 3 sections:
- Dimensioning - toggle dimensioning toolbar.
- Crosshairs Measurement - toggle and adjust crosshair measurement.
- Calibration - set calibration caliper points.

This submenu allows the setting of supervisor features. This submenu currently contains 1 section:
- Supervisor Mode - enable and disable and set supervisor parameters.

Connectivity
This submenu allows adjustments to be made to all settings regarding the system's connectivity. This submenu contains 4 sections:
- WIFI - set WIFI connection.
- Ethernet - set ethernet connection.
- Bluetooth - open device manager and file transfer.
- Video Streaming - start, stop and configure video streaming function.

- User Interface - set desired language and layout of GUI.
- System Configuration - set system information and factory reset.

Quadrant Control
The Quadrant Control is used to manage individual light quadrants on the surface light. Select a quadrant to enable or disable the corresponding light output. The visibility of the quadrant control can also be toggled independently on the user interface as needed.
Note: This feature is not interactable in keypad mode.
Lighting and Zoom Slider Bar
The Slide Bar is used to view and adjust lighting and zoom settings. When collapsed, the bar displays the current lighting values and zoom level for quick reference. Expand the bar to access sliders that allow fast, precise adjustment of lighting and zoom settings directly from the user interface. The Slider Bar can be enabled or disabled as required.
Note: This feature is not interactable in keypad mode.
Preset Dropdown
The Preset Dropdown is used to view and select lighting presets. When collapsed, the dropdown displays the currently selected preset or indicates that no preset is selected. Expand the dropdown to view the available presets and select a different preset. The selected preset is applied immediately upon selection.
Note: This feature is not interactable in keypad mode.
Special Mode Indicator
The Special Mode Indicator is used to identify when a special operating mode is active and view the associated key bindings. The Mode indicator is displayed automatically when entering menu options that require this feature. Supported modes include Spot Adjustment, Dimension Calibration, Image Playback Annotations, Image Freeze, and Measurement. When active, the indicator provides mode-specific guidance to assist with the available controls and actions.

AURA Touch Panel GUI
Layout
Home Page
The home page on the front panel touchscreen allows the viewing and editing of key system options that may regularly be used: zoom, surface lighting, sub-stage lighting, focus mode, exposure mode, overview and capture image.
A navigation bar at the top allows for selection between the 3 pages.
Lighting Page
The lighting page on the front panel touchscreen shows more detailed lighting options. This page allows the enable/disable and increase/decrease lighting options, along with adjusting quadrant controls. Depending on the lighting accessories supplied the layout of the page will automatically change.
Preset Page
This preset page on the front panel touchscreen allows the enabling of presets which are set through the main AURA GUI - up to 10 presets can be saved on the system.
Any line with with 'Pxx' text, means a preset is saved and is available to select.
The tick indicates which preset is currently active.
A line with no text identified a preset that is clear.
Navigation Pages
The navigation pages are linked to the 'special modes' and automatically present on the screen when any one of the following modes appear:

System Overview - Menus
Camera
Focus
Auto Focus
Auto Focus mode automatically adjusts the focus of the image for optimal clarity. When selected, the system performs a focus operation and updates the image accordingly. There are two options for Auto Focus that can be chosen from:
Full Field
Use Full Field Auto Focus mode to automatically optimise focus across the entire image. When activated, the system analyses the full field of view and adjusts focus to achieve the best overall image clarity. This mode is suitable for general imaging tasks where consistent focus across the image is required.
Spot Field
Use Spot Field Auto Focus mode to automatically optimise focus within a specific area of the image. When activated, the system adjusts focus based on the user-defined spot region, prioritising clarity in that area. This mode is useful when precise focus is required on a particular feature or point of interest within the image.
The spot field visibility can be toggled on/off. This is useful to view the current selected spot region without editing it.
The spot field region can redefined. Entering this action triggers on of the 'special modes'. The Special Mode Indicator will appear on the GUI and if the touch variant of the AURA is being used, the touchscreen will present the corresponding navigation page. Below shows the related Special Mode Indicator:

Manual Focus
Manual Focus mode is used to adjust image focus directly using the Focus Level control. When selected, the Focus Level can be increased or decreased to achieve the desired image sharpness. This mode provides precise control over focus and is useful when automatic focusing does not produce the required result.
The focus level can be adjusted via the slider.
The values that can be selected: 0-inf
Exposure
Notes:
- Gain - Increases the brightness of the image by amplifying the camera signal. Higher gain can improve visibility in low-light conditions but may also increase image noise.
- Aperture (F-stop) - The aperture controls the amount of light entering the lens. Lower F-stop values allow more light to reach the sensor, producing a brighter image. Higher F-stop values reduce the amount of light entering the lens and may increase the depth of field.
- Exposure Time - Determines how long the image sensor is exposed to light. Longer exposure times increase image brightness but may introduce motion blur. Shorter exposure times reduce motion blur but may result in a darker image.
Auto Exposure
Auto Exposure mode is used to automatically adjust image exposure for optimal brightness and contrast. When activated, the system analyses the image and applies the appropriate Aperture, Gain and Exposure Time settings to achieve a balanced result. In Auto Exposure mode, the Brightness level can be adjusted using the slider. There are two options for Auto Exposure that can be chosen from:
Full Field
Use Full Field Auto Exposure mode to automatically optimise exposure across the entire image. When activated, the system analyses the full field of view and adjusts exposure to achieve balanced image brightness and detail. This mode is suitable for general imaging tasks where overall scene visibility is required.
The Auto Exposure Brightness level can be adjusted via the slider.
The values that can be selected: 0-14
Spot Field
Use Spot Field Auto Exposure mode to automatically optimise exposure within a specific area of the image. When activated, the system adjusts exposure based on the user-defined spot region, prioritising brightness and detail in that area. This mode is useful when the area of interest requires different exposure conditions from the surrounding image.
The Auto Exposure Brightness level can be adjusted via the slider.
The values that can be selected: 0-14
The spot field visibility can be toggled on/off. This is useful to view the current selected spot region without editing it.
The spot field region can redefined. Entering this action triggers one of the 'special modes'. Manual Exposure
Use Manual Exposure mode to adjust image exposure settings directly. When selected, exposure can be controlled by adjusting Aperture, Gain, and Exposure Time. These settings can be used individually or in combination to achieve the desired image brightness and image quality. Manual Exposure mode provides precise control and is useful when automatic exposure does not produce the required result.
The Aperture, Gain and Exposure Time values can be adjusted via the respective sliders.
The Aperture values that can be selected: F14 - F1.6
The Gain values that can be selected: 1-17
The Exposure Time values that can be selected: 1/10000 - 1/1
Aperture Priority
Use Aperture Priority mode to control image exposure while maintaining a fixed aperture setting. When selected, the Aperture and the desired brightness level are set and the system automatically adjusts Gain and Exposure Time to achieve the specified brightness. This mode is useful when controlling the amount of light entering the lens or maintaining a specific depth of field is the primary requirement.
The Aperture and AP Brightness values can be adjusted via the respective sliders.
The Aperture values that can be selected: F14 - F1.6
The AP Brightness values that can be selected: 0-14
Shutter Priority
Use Shutter Priority mode to control image exposure while maintaining a fixed exposure time. When selected, the Exposure Time and the desired brightness level are set and the system automatically adjusts Aperture and Gain to achieve the specified brightness. This mode is useful when controlling motion blur or maintaining a specific exposure duration is the primary requirement.
The Exposure Time and SP Brightness values can be adjusted via the respective sliders.
The Exposure Time values that can be selected: 1/10000 - 1/1
The AP Brightness values that can be selected: 0-14
Image Settings
White Balance
White Balance adjusts the colour balance of the image to ensure colours appear natural under different lighting conditions. Correct white balance helps maintain accurate colour reproduction by compensating for variations in light source colour temperature.
White Balance is an action.
- 'Apply' is pressed
- A pop up message will appear stating 'White Balance in progress...'.
- When complete, the message disappears and two short beeps will sound
Colour Gain
Colour Gain adjusts the intensity and saturation of colours within the image. Increasing the Colour Gain enhances colour vibrancy, while decreasing it produces a more subdued appearance.
The setting can be adjusted using the Colour Gain slider.
The Colour Gain level values that can be selected: -4-10
Noise Reduction
Noise Reduction reduces visible image noise and grain, particularly in low-light conditions or when higher gain settings are used. Increasing the Noise Reduction setting can produce a smoother image, while lower settings preserve fine image detail.
The Noise Reduction can be adjusted using the slider.
The Noise Reduction level values that can be selected: 0-10
Gamma
Adjusting gamma alters the perceived mid-tones of the camera image leaving absolute blacks and whites untouched.
Standard
Allows the adjustment of gamma against a standard gamma curve.
The Gamma Offset can be adjusted using the slider.
The Gamma Offset values that can be selected: -4-4
Straight
Allows the adjustment of gamma against a straight gamma curve.
The Gamma Offset can be adjusted using the slider.
The Gamma Offset values that can be selected: -4-4
Pattern
Allows the adjustment of gamma against a standard different pattern gamma curve.
The Gamma Offset can be adjusted using the slider.
The Gamma Offset values that can be selected: -5-5
Visibility Enhancer
Visibility Enhancer setting adaptively adjusts contrast and brightens shadows, making dark areas of an image visible without overexposing the brighter areas. This is useful to inspect areas with dark shadows.
The Visibility Enhancer can be adjusted using the slider.
The Noise Reduction level values that can be selected: -3-3
Black and White Mode
Use Black and White Mode to display the image without colour information. When activated, the system converts the live view to grayscale, emphasising contrast, brightness, and structural detail. This mode is useful for applications where colour is not required and enhanced visual clarity of features is preferred.
The mode can be toggled on/off.
Wide Dynamic Range
This setting is only available for 1080p variants.
Activate Wide Dynamic Range mode to improve image detail in scenes containing both very bright and very dark areas. This feature enhances visibility in shadow and highlight regions, helping to preserve image information in high-contrast subjects.
The mode can be toggled on/off.
Infrared Mode
Activate Infrared Mode to extend the camera's sensitivity beyond the visible light spectrum. When enabled, the internal infrared filter is removed, allowing infrared wavelengths to be captured. Images are displayed in monochrome to incorporate both visible and infrared light information. For infrared-only imaging, compatible IR-transmitting filters (IR720) can be fitted to the objective lens.
The mode can be toggled on/off.
Contrast Enhancement
Use contrast enhancement to adjust the level of contrast on the displayed camera feed. The feature provides four options: Off, Low, Mid and High.
Toggle between the options using the drop down menu.
Mirror Flip
Use Mirror Flip to change the orientation of the displayed image. The feature provides four options:
- Off - The image is displayed in its original orientation.
- Horizontal - Flips the image left-to-right.
- Vertical - Flips the image top-to-bottom.
- Both - Applies both horizontal and vertical flipping. This setting is useful for adapting the display orientation to user preference or specific viewing requirements.
Toggle between the options using the drop down menu.
Lighting
Note: If neither Surface Lighting or Sub-Stage Lighting are detected then the following message shows:
"No lighting devices are connected"
Surface Lighting
Ring Light
Ring Light is the term given to the lighting accessory that fits to the base of the AURA to allow for surface illumination that does not feature UV integration. Follow here for more information on fitting.
The Ring Light can be toggled on/off.
The brightness of the light can be adjusted via the slider.
Ring Light White
Ring Light White relates to the lighting accessory that fits to the base of the AURA to allow for surface illumination that does feature both standard and UV lighting integration. Follow here for more information on fitting. Ring Light White refers to the adjustment of the non-UV part of this accessory.
The Ring Light White can be toggled on/off.
The brightness of the light can be adjusted via the slider.
Ring Light UV
Ring Light UV relates to the lighting accessory that fits to the base of the AURA to allow for surface illumination that does feature both standard and UV lighting integration. Follow here for more information on fitting. Ring Light UV refers to the adjustment of the UV part of this accessory.
UV light can be a useful way to detect fluorescent conformal coatings, flux residues, contamination and cracks.
The Ring Light UV can be toggled on/off.
The brightness of the light can be adjusted via the slider.
Quadrant Control
All Surface Lighting options can be quadrant controlled where sections of the light ring can be independently turned on and off. This feature provides four options: Front, Left, Right and Back.
The quadrants can be toggled on/off.
Notes:
- The White and UV Ring light Quadrant Control are linked and controlled together.
- The Quadrant Control can be adjusted via the widget docked in the bottom-left of the GUI.
Sub-Stage Lighting
Sub-Stage Light
Sub-Stage Light relates to the lighting accessory that fits to the AURA stand and allows for illumination from underneath the subject. Follow here for more information on fitting.
The Sub-Stage Light can be toggled on/off.
The brightness of the light can be adjusted via the slider.
Magnification
Magnification Settings
Monitor Size Mode
Monitor sizing can be identified in two ways: Automatic and Manual.
Automatic
Using Automatic Monitor Size Mode is the easiest way for the AURA system to identify which monitor is being used.
This option can be toggled on/off.
Note: When Automatic Monitor Size Mode is selected the following message shows:
"Objective Lens xxxx detected"
Manual
Using Manual Monitor Size Mode is useful for when a monitor is not recognised or is an uncommon size.
This option can be toggled on/off.
The size is adjusted via a slider that becomes active when the Manual mode is toggled on.
Lens Selection
This refers to the selection of the magnifying lens attached to the base of the AURA . This can be changed frequently for different applications. Follow here for fitting instructions.
The lens selection is set via the drop down menu. The following options are available:
- Automatic detection - The system detects the unique ID PCB built into the lens and displays the value.
- Specific lens magnification: x0.45, x0.62, x1.0, x1.5, x2.0, 360 Viewer, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, 5x Micro. 10x Micro, other
Digital Zoom
AURA can zoom both optically and with digital enhancement.
The digital zoom selection is set via the drop down menu. The following options are available:
- off - AURA will be restricted to only optical zoom.
- on x2 - AURA will be restricted to zooming up to x2 digital zoom.
- on x12 - AURA will be restricted to zooming up to x12 digital zoom.
Note: When 'on x2' or 'on x12' is selected the following message shows:
"Digital zoom enabled"
When 'off' is selected the following message shows:
"Digital zoom disabled"
Optimal Field
Optimal Field refers to the restriction of minimum zoom to reduce any vignetting from the set lens. Full Field allows the full zoom range of the lens.
This option can be toggled on/off.
Zoom to
A known system magnification can be set without actioning the zoom itself. This can be useful when there is a given feature that needs to be inspected next but does not need to be triggered right away.
Use the slider to set the 'zoom to' function. Press 'Apply' when the desired value needs to be actioned.
Note: The desired value may not be able to be met due to other setting restrictions: zoom range, digital zoom settings, optimal field settings, zoom limit settings).
Zoom Limit
The Zoom Limit feature restricts the available zoom range by defining minimum and maximum system magnification values.
This mode can be toggled on/off.
The minimum and maximum zoom values can be adjusted via the sliders.
Note: If Zoom Limit is enabled, or if the magnification limits are changed such that the current zoom position falls outside the permitted range, the camera automatically adjusts the zoom position to the nearest valid magnification within the configured limits.
Media
Media Button
Media Button refers to the quick key button that presents itself in multiple places across the AURA product: one on the mechanical button AURA, one on the Touch Panel AURA, and one on the top right-hand side of the main GUI. It allows for a configurable shortcut to a common operation.
The following allocations to the Media Button can be toggled:
- Capture Image - An image of the screen is saved.
- Capture Image As - An image of the screen is saved with a pop up to change file name.
- Freeze Image - The image feedback from the camera is frozen whilst pan/zoom and menu operation remains.
- Video Recording - Video recording of the screen can be started and stopped .

Notes:
- If using M4K105 Image & Video Capture Box with AURA 4K, set the Display Mode to: 3840x2160@30Hz.
- If using M4K105 Image & Video Capture Box with AURA 1080p, set the Display Mode to: 1920x1080@60Hz.
Freeze Image / Unfreeze Image
The onscreen image can be frozen or unfrozen.
Freeze Image / Unfreeze Image is an action and entering this action triggers one of the 'special modes'. The Special Mode Indicator will appear on the GUI and if the touch variant of the AURA is being used, the touchscreen will present the corresponding navigation page. Below shows the related Special Mode Indicator:

Capture Image
An image can be saved of the camera feedback with a system defined file name.
Capture Image is an action.
- 'Capture Image' is pressed
- A pop up message will appear stating 'Saving image to internal memory'
- When complete, a pop-up message appears stating 'Image saved with name xxxx'.
Capture Image As
An image can be saved of the camera feedback and a unique file name can be defined immediately.
Capture Image As is an action.
- 'Capture Image As' is pressed
- The file explorer will appear and the correct folder should be navigated to.
- Once the file location is selected, a pop up message will appear stating 'Saving image to xxxx'
- When complete, a pop-up message appears stating 'Image saved with name xxxx'.
Default Save Location
Determines which storage device an image is saved to by default.
The default save location can be toggled between the following options:
- USB - Save to USB Stick inserted into AURA.
- Internal Memory - Save to AURA internal memory (64GB - 1080p variant, 128GB - 4K Variant).
- Network Location - Save to a location in the network if network connection has been configured.
File Format
When saving images, either PNG or JPG file formats can be chosen from.
The file format selection can be toggled using the drop down menu.
Default File Name
The default file name that Image Capture will save as can be set.
The default file name can be toggled between default and user defined.
If user defined is toggled on then a User Filename option appears.
The User Filename can be changed. This is an action:
- 'User Filename' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a password to be entered.
- The password can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Timestamp
The display of a timestamp on a saved image can be chosen for traceability.
The timestamp can be toggled between on/off.
Scale Bar
Overlaid on saved images to provide visual reference for magnification and scale - work without requiring user-performed dimension calibration.
The scale bar calculation shall be based on the following system parameters:
- Current zoom level.
- Detected or selected lens type (objective lens).
- Camera type (sensor size and resolution).
The scale bar selection can be toggled between on/off.
GUI Included
The visibility of GUI elements when capturing images can be set.
The GUI inclusion can be toggled between on/off.
Watermark
The visibility of a watermark image over a captured image can be set. The watermark shall be in PNG format.
To select the watermark file, 'Select File' is pressed which triggers the file manager pop-up.
The file name is displayed once selected.
Note: The PNG image will scale to the selected resolution of the screen.
Presets
Hotkeys
Hotkeys refers to the 3 buttons labelled '1', '2' and '3' on the mechanical button version of AURA . Each hotkey can be assigned to one of 10 Preset slots or assigned to “none”.
Hotkey 1-3
Preset 1 to 10 can be assigned to Hotkey 1-3. This is useful for quick and convenient application of very common system settings.
The assigned preset is set via the drop down menu.
Presets
A preset is a predefined collection of system settings that can be saved and applied as a single configuration. Presets allow for quickly switch between commonly used system configurations without manually adjusting individual settings.
Presets 1-10
The system allows for up to 10 presets to be saved. The activated preset is shown by a green tick on the right hand side of the preset name and also in the preset GUI feature. Each preset is a dropdown menu with the following 5 options:
- Apply - Applies the given preset that is saved to slot 1-10.
- Save - Saves the current system settings to slot 1-10.
- Import - Opens file manager and to select a saved preset.
- Export - Opens file manager and to save the current preset.
- Clear - Deletes the current saved system configuration from the given preset slot.
Note: When a preset is activated, changing any setting will result in the preset being unselected, protecting it from being overwritten. 'Save' must be pressed to save the adjusted settings.
Inspection
Annotations
The Annotations feature gives the ability to add, edit, and manage graphical and text-based markups on an image to highlight, identify, or communicate information.
Note: This feature is only accessible in mouse mode.
Annotation Toolbar
The Annotation Toolbar houses many annotation features. The currently selected annotation tool is clearly highlighted, and the interface indicates whether annotation mode is active or inactive.
The toolbar can be toggled between on/off.
Toolbar features
Select Mode
Use left-click to select one or multiple annotations. Alternatively, left-click can be pressed and held and dragged over multiple annotations and then released to select all annotations in the bounding box. This allows the selected items to be edited, moved or deleted.
Drawing Shapes Annotations
The following annotation shapes are available:
- Arrow
- Line
- Circle
- Rectangle
- Angle reference
- Auto labeling
- Auto dimension
To create a shape, select the required tool and click and drag on the image.
Labels can be added to the shapes too.
Text Annotations
Text can be added to the image by selecting the text tool, clicking on the required location, and entering the text using the keyboard.
Editing Annotations
Existing annotations can be modified after creation. Supported editing functions include:
- Moving annotations
- Resizing annotations
- Rotating annotations, where applicable
- Changing annotation properties such as colour, line weight, and text content
Moving, Resizing or Deleting Annotations
Annotations can be selected individually for editing or deletion. Selected annotations can be moved, resized, or removed using the delete function.
Changing Annotation Colour
The colour of lines, shapes, and text can be modified. Select one or multiple annotations, click on the colours tab and select a new colour using the predefined swatch of high contrast colours.
Changing Line Weight
The thickness of lines and shape borders can be adjusted to suit the display. Line weights can be set within the supported range for the current resolution.
Changing Font Size
The size of text annotations can be adjusted to improve readability and suit the display requirements. When selecting text, the toolbar changes to the text toolbar and the size can be changed.
Capturing and Saving Annotated Images
Images can be captured and saved with all annotations permanently rendered onto the image. The saved file contains the original image and all visible annotations combined into a single image.

Overlays
The overlay feature allows a user-created overlay image to presented over the current video feed. There are 3 overlay slots to save images to, each can be enabled and disabled.
Overlay 1-3
An image (in PNG format) can be imported and saved using the GUI menu. Selecting a file is an action:
- 'Select File' is pressed.
- The file explorer will appear and the correct folder should be navigated to.
- Once the file location is selected, a pop up message will appear stating 'Importing overlay to slot xxxx'.
- When complete, a pop-up message appears stating 'Importing overlay successfully'.
- The 'Selected File' display name then shown in the menu.
Scaling behavior can be toggled between scaling with zoom or not scaling with zoom.
Press 'clear file' to remove the selected file from the given overlay slot.
Each overlay can be toggled on/off.
Comparison
The comparison feature allows a determined image to be imported and saved onto the system that can be used as a comparison to the current video feed.
Note: This feature is only accessible in mouse mode.
Comparison 1-3
Comparison images can be imported and saved in up to 3 slots. Importing an image is an action:
- 'Select File' is pressed.
- The file explorer will appear and the correct folder should be navigated to.
- The selected file can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the pop up box.
- The 'Selected File' display name then shown in the menu.
Press 'clear file' to remove the selected file from the given overlay slot.
The comparison method is to pulse between the live feed and comparison image. Pulse on and pulse off time can be set with durations from 0.25-2.5secs.
Each comparison can be toggled on/off. Only one comparison slot can be active at a time.
Crosshair
This feature displays a fixed reference crosshair marker on the live image to assist with centring, alignment, feature identification, and repeatable inspection of the specimen.
Crosshair
The Crosshair function can be set off, on (short) or on (long).
Colour
The Colour can be selected for the crosshair from a predetermined swatch of high contrast colours.
Focus Stack
Focus stacking feature captures several images through the camera's focus range and will process them into a single static image with effectively an improved depth of field. This image can be saved. The start/stop Focus points and the number of images can be defined.
Run
Focus Stack is an action:
- 'Run' is pressed.
- A pop up message will appear stating 'Focus Stacking Capturing Images x/10'.
- A second pop up message will appear stating 'Focus Stacking Processing'.
- When complete, the a final message appears stating 'Focus Stacking Complete'.
Min Focus
The Min Focus allows the setting of the focus at the highest point of the object, closest to the lens.
The Min Focus can be adjusted via the slider.
Max Focus
The Max Focus allows the setting of the focus at the lowest point of the object, furthest from the lens.
The Max Focus can be adjusted via the slider.
Number of Images
This setting determines how many images are taken in the focus stack. Increasing the number of images increases the processing time, however yields higher clarity across the focus range.
The number of images can be adjusted via the slider.
Reset
Reset the focus stack settings and return to live feedback.
Dimensioning
Dimensioning
The dimensioning toolbar shares features with the annotation toolbar and so toggling this on/off shows the same toolbar as the annotation toolbar.

The toolbar can be toggled on/off.

Dimension Features
Shapes can automatically display X and Y dimensions. This is a useful feature to identify the sizes of features of interest.
This is toggled on and off.
Note: A measurement will only display once the system has been calibrated. Follow here for more information.
Units
System units can be selected.
Toggle between the options using the drop down menu.
The following options are available: centimetres (cm), millimetres (mm), micrometres (μm), inches, thou and tenths.
Dimension Toolbar
The toolbar can be toggled on/off.
Calibration Area Guide
The Calibrated area can be toggled on/off.
Crosshair Measurement
The Crosshair Measurement feature allows two crosshairs to be set at different locations on the screen and a live measurement of X, Y and D dimension will display at the bottom.
The Crosshair Measurement tool can be toggled on/off.
Note: A measurement will only display once the system has been calibrated. Follow here for more information.

The Crosshair Measurement tool can be adjusted here. This actions a 'special mode' and a unique legend appears to gives guidance through the tool depending on what interaction mode is being used - keypad, mouse or touch.
Calibration
The calibration function allows for accurately setting up the system's measurement using a reference feature of a known dimension.
Calibration is an action and entering this action triggers one of the 'special modes'. The Special Mode Indicator will appear on the GUI and if the touch variant of the AURA is being used, the touchscreen will present the corresponding navigation page. Below shows the related Special Mode Indicator:

Reset Calibration Point
This clears all information regarding system calibration. The system will need recalibrating before using the dimensioning features.
Lens
This presents details on the status of the system when it was calibrated.
Utilities
Supervisor Mode
In Supervisor Mode certain features can be locked/unlocked throughout the AURA settings menu. This feature is useful to prevent settings from being accidentally changed or changed without permission.
Supervisor Mode
Supervisor Mode can be toggled on/off.
When Supervisor Mode is off, all features are unlocked, regardless of the supervisor configuration.
Note: A password is required to toggle this feature.
Set/Change Password
This setting allows for a password to be typed in to make changes to this setting.
The password can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Set Password' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a password to be entered.
- The address can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Configuration
The Configuration setting allows for the selection of what features are locked/unlocked.
The locked/unlocked features can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Set Features' is pressed.
- A pop-up appears allowing for features to be selected/unselected.
- A locked feature is shown by the closed lock icon and unlocked by the open lock icon.
- The selection can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Note: A password is required to access this feature.
File Manager
File Manager
This feature allows access to the file explorer widget. The file manager has many features to help with navigation though the file explorer:
❶ Go up one directory.
❷ Refresh.
❸ Create new directory.
❹ Rename selected item.
❺ Delete selected items.
❻ Cut selected items.
❼ Copy selected items.
❽ Toggle image preview.
If you select a file and press copy ❼ the follow options appear:
❾ Paste selected items into directory.
❿ Clear the current cut/copy selection.
Connectivity
Wi-Fi Settings
Wi-Fi connectivity can be toggled on/off.
Wi-Fi Networks
Available and connected Wi-Fi networks can be displayed and selected. This is an action:
- 'Wi-Fi Network' is pressed.
- A pop-up appears allowing for available Wi-Fi connections to be selected/unselected.
- A green tick shows which Wi-Fi option is currently selected.
- Signal strength is shown by the number of Wi-Fi bars presented next to each option.
- The selection can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the pop-up.
IP Address
The IP Address is displayed as a value.
Hotspot Settings
Hotspot can be toggled on/off.
SSID
Clicking 'SSID' allows the setting of the Hotspot SSID (network name) via a pop-up text box.
Note: The SSID supports alphanumeric characters and common special characters, with a maximum length of 32 characters. The default SSID is named "EVOCam-XXXX" where XXXX represents the last 4 characters of the device's unique identifier (e.g., MAC address or serial number).
Security
The Hotspot security mode can be selected. The following security modes are available:
- WPA2-PSK - default.
- WPA3-PSK - if supported by hardware.
- Open - no password (with warning message).
Password
The Hotspot password can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Password' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a new password to be entered.
- The new password can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Note: The password shall have a minimum length of 8 characters and a maximum length of 63 characters. The default password is a factory-set value documented in the user manual.
Bluetooth Settings
Bluetooth connectivity can be toggled on/off.
Bluetooth Devices
Available and connected Bluetooth devices can be displayed and selected. This is an action:
- 'Bluetooth Devices' is pressed.
- A pop-up appears allowing for available Bluetooth connections to be selected/unselected.
- A green tick shows which Bluetooth option is currently selected.
- The selection can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the pop-up.
Ethernet Settings
Note: This section is only visible to the user when a live ethernet cable is connected to the AURA (via the EVA372 USB to Ethernet Adaptor. Follow here for more information).
There are two ways to define the IP address for an ethernet connection: Static and DHCP.
Static
Static IP addresses are configured manually and remain permanent.
The IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway can be defined. This is an action:
- 'IP Address', 'Subnet Mask' or 'Gateway' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for information to be entered.
- The input can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
DHCP
DHCP is an automated address manager protocol that assigns IP addresses to devices on a network.
The IP address assigned is shown.
Network Drive Settings
Network Drive Settings allows the configuration and access of the Network Drive that can be used to import and export data over SMB network file sharing protocol.
Contact the IT Support of the company who owns this AURA unit for more information on the Network Drive to connect to.
Note: This feature is only available for wired ethernet connections or Wi-Fi connection in client mode. Network Drive is unavailable in Hotspot mode.
IP Address
The IP Address can be changed. This is an action:
- 'IP Address' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for an address to be entered.
- The address can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Share Name
The Share Name of the Network Drive can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Share Name' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a Share Name to be entered.
- The Share Name can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Folder Path
The folder path can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Folder Path' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a folder path to be entered.
- The folder path can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Username
The username can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Username' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a username to be entered.
- The username can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Password
The password can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Password' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a password to be entered.
- The password can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Domain / Workgroup
The Domain / Workgroup can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Domain / Workgroup' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a Domain / Workgroup to be entered.
- The Domain / Workgroup can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Note: This setting is optional.
Test Connection
This allows for the verification of connectivity and permissions of the chosen drive. This is an action.
- 'Test Connection' is pressed.
- A pop-up appears stating whether the connection has failed or is successful.
Mount
This allows the AURA to use the chosen Network Drive. Once the Network drive is connected to, the settings cannot be altered.
Unmount
This removes the use of the network drive and the settings can be changed.
Streaming
Notes:
- Annotations and dimensioning objections are not included in the stream.
- GUI menu overlay and status bar are not included in the stream.
Local Stream
Local Stream allows for the video feed to be streamed over a shared network, connected either by Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Hotspot.
Starting/stopping a local stream is an action:
- 'Local Stream' is pressed.
- A message appears stating 'Stream starting. Please wait.'.
- The message will disappear and a WebRTC address will appear that any device connected to the same network as the host AURA can use to view the stream.
- A tick signifies that the stream is on.
- To stop the stream, press 'Local Stream' again.
- A message appears stating 'Stream stopping. Please wait.'.
- The link will then become inactive.
- A cross signifies the stream is no longer on.
Hosted Stream
Hosted Stream allows for the video feed to be streamed over a chosen server. The devices do not need to be on the same network.
Please contact the IT Support of the company that owns the AURA unit for more information on the chosen streaming server.
Starting/stopping a hosted stream is an action:
- 'Hosted Stream' is pressed.
- A message appears stating 'Stream starting. Please wait.'.
- The message will disappear.
- A tick signifies that the stream is on.
- To stop the stream, press 'Local Stream' again.
- A message appears stating 'Stream stopping. Please wait.'.
- The link will then become inactive
Server Destination
The server destination can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Server Destination' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a server destination to be entered.
- The server destination can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Stream Key
The Stream Key can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Stream Key' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a Stream Key to be entered.
- The Stream Key can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Username
The streaming username can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Username' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a username to be entered.
- The username can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Password
The streaming password can be changed. This is an action:
- 'Password' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a password to be entered.
- The password can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.

Language
The system display language can be set.
The language is adjusted via the drop down. The current options are:
- English
- German
- Spanish (ES)

- Japanese

Keyboard Layout
The keyboard layout for on-screen keyboards can be set.
The language is adjusted via the drop down. The current options are:
- UK English (QWERTY)
- US English (QWERTY
- German (QWERTZ)
Status Bar Mode
The status bar behaviour can be changed.
The Status Bar Mode is adjusted via the drop down. The current options are:
- On - Visible at all times.
- When Changing - Visible only for 3 seconds when a system change is made.
- Magnification only - A reduced status bar is visible with only lens identification and magnification level shown.
- Off - Status bar not visible.
Mode Indicator
The Mode Indicator behaviour can be changed.
The Mode Indicator behaviour is adjusted via the drop down. The current options are:
- On - Visible at all times.
- When Changing - Visible only for 3 seconds when a system change is made.
- Off - Mode Indicator not visible.
General UI
The following GUI feature visibilities can be toggled on/off:
- Zoom Slider
- Lighting Slider
- Camera Button
- Preset Menu

- Touchscreen Sound
System Configuration
System Name
This displays the unique system name. This automatically displays as the serial code set by Vision Engineering during manufacture. The name may be edited which is an action.
- 'System Name' is pressed.
- A textbox pop-up appears allowing for a system name to be entered.
- The system name can be confirmed or cancelled which closes the textbox pop-up.
Camera Mode
This allows for the selection of the resolution and frame rate of the camera.
The Camera Mode is adjusted via the drop down. The current options are:
- 4K30Hz - Available only in 4K variant

Display Mode
The connected display(s)' resolution and frequency can be selected.
The Display Mode is adjusted via the drop down.
Note: The resolution and frequency options displayed change depending on the monitors identified.
Primary Display
The primary display can be selected. The primary display shows the live video feed from the camera.
The Primary Display can be selected via the drop down.
Date
The system date can be changed.
Time
The system time can be changed.
Date Format
The date format for the system can be set.
The Date Format is adjusted via the drop down. The current options are:
- DD/MM/YY
- MM/DD/YY
- YY/MM/DD
System Settings
System settings can be imported and exported. This is an action:
- 'Import' or 'Export' is pressed.
- The file explorer will appear and the correct folder should be navigated to.
- The selected file or folder can be confirmed or cancelled which will close the pop up.
Licence Key
Licence key information can be imported or exported. This is an action:
- 'Import' or 'Export' is pressed.
- The file explorer will appear and the correct folder should be navigated to.
- The selected file or folder can be confirmed or cancelled which will close the pop up.
Factory Reset
Factory reset returns the system to the original system configuration - all data saved on the device will be wiped except the following:
- Imported Licenses
- Captured Images
- Supervisor Password
Factory Reset is an action:
- 'Factory Reset' is pressed
- A pop up message will appear asking for confirmation of Factory Reset.
- When complete, the message disappears and two short beeps will sound
Software Upgrade
This function searches for an software upgrade via a USB stick that is plugged into the unit. The upgrade must be downloaded on the root of the USB.
Software Upgrade is an action:
- 'Software Upgrade' is pressed.
- A pop up message will appear asking to confirm the upgrade.
- Press either 'Cancel' or 'Upgrade OS'.

This displays a wide range of system information.
Clicking 'System Information' will open a pop-up box. The following information is listed in the pop-up:
Camera variant: “Full HD”/“4K”,
Camera mode: “4K30Hz”/”4K25Hz”/”1080p60Hz”/”1080p50Hz”,
Software Version
Firmware Version
List of detected lighting devices with respective firmware versions:
BT module: “available”/”not available” and respective model name,
Wi-Fi module: “available”/”not available” and respective model name,
SD card size,
Built-in keypad: “available”/”not available” and respective firmware version,
Remote keypad: “available”/”not available” and respective firmware version,

Routine Maintenance
Cleaning
Disconnect your system from the electrical source before cleaning.
Do not use any unsuitable cleaning agents, chemicals or techniques for cleaning.
Never use chemicals to clean coloured surfaces or accessories with rubberised parts.
Use a specialist lens cloth to clean optical surfaces.
Servicing
Repairs may only be carried out by Vision Engineering trained service personnel.
Only original Vision Engineering spare parts may be used.

General Safety
Safety
Before using your system for the first time, please read the Health & safety section of the user guide.
Ensure that:
Your system and accessories are operated, maintained and repaired by authorised and trained personnel only.
All operators have read, understood and observe the user manual, in particular the safety regulations.
UV Light
Do not look directly into the illumination source. This may cause damage to eyesight.
When using the UV illumination options the following mitigations are required:
Always wear supplied eye protection when using the UV LED.
Turn off UV LEDs when not in use.
Cover exposed skin when using UV for prolonged periods of time.
Users to perform their own risk assessment for their working environment.
Compliance Statements
Vision Engineering and its products conform to the requirements of the EC Directives on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
All Vision Engineering products conform to the CE mark, demonstrating that each product meets the requirements of the applicable EC directives.
Where applicable, other characteristics of the CE directive are implied such as essential health and safety requirements from all the directives that applies to its product, including low voltage directive and the EMC directive.
Health & Safety
Disconnect your system from the electrical source before undertaking any maintenance.
Do not disconnect the power cable when the camera is on, or connect the power cable when the mains supply is on.
Avoid using any form of liquid near the system.
Do not operate your system with wet hands. Illumination safety:
Do not look directly at the illuminated LED’s. This may cause damage to the eyesight.
Warranty
This product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of invoice to the original purchaser.
If during the warranty period the product is found to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced at facilities of Vision Engineering or elsewhere, all at the option of Vision Engineering. However, Vision Engineering reserves the right to refund the purchase price if it is unable to provide replacement, and repair is not commercially practicable or cannot be timely made. Parts not of Vision Engineering manufacture carry only the warranty of
their manufacturer.
Expendable components such as fuses carry no warranty.
This warranty does not cover damage in transit, damage caused by misuse, neglect, or carelessness, or damage resulting from either improper servicing or modification by other than Vision Engineering approved service personnel. Further, this warranty does not cover any routine maintenance work on the product described in the user guide or any minor maintenance work which is reasonably expected to be performed by the purchaser.
No responsibility is assumed for unsatisfactory operating performance due to environmental conditions such as humidity, dust, corrosive chemicals, deposition of oil or other foreign matter, spillage, or other conditions beyond the control of Vision Engineering.
